Why IdahoFallz.com was created, part ii
IdahoFallz.com was also partly inspired by a string of unreported car burglaries around Ammon and the Grand Teton Mall shopping areas.
Some family members dined at a restaurant on a Friday evening, with their car parked right up to 17th street and under a streetlight. When they returned, their van’s passenger-side window had been smashed […]
University Place campus primed for boomtime
Has anyone seen the University Place expansion plans? Maybe I read it in the Post Register, maybe I saw a display on campus, but I recall seeing a master plan for campus expansion. The plans called for several more buildings located north of the Bennion Student Union building. These plans will likely take a decade […]
Amazing Huge RV Scandal: ‘751′ keys unlock most outside security boxes
Our local Idaho 8 NBC ABC affiliate Local News 8 has done an awesome job uncovering a scandal in of all places, RV locks!
Reporter Josh Davis discovered that the little keys used to lock outside-accessible security boxes on RV travel trailers are nearly all the same, each stamped with the number ‘751′. He […]
Kite flying at Community Park
There were not many kites flying at first yesterday afternoon. These pictures show the best one out there, a big beautiful American-themed kite. Our $5 Wal-Mart kite flew great for twenty minutes, but got damaged after a few nose dives. At least ours did not get tangled in the tree like someone else’s $3 kite.
As […]
Idaho Falls City Website Overdue for Overhaul
Anyone check out our Idaho Falls city website lately? You can see that it is long overdue for a redesign.
There is just not much information provided on the main page, which effectively makes it a ’splash page’, which went out of style years ago. Some of the links need fixing (clicking ‘Events Calendars’ takes you […]
Idaho Falls Kite Week April 24 - 30, 2006
Mayor Fuhriman has declared April 24th thru the 30th to be Idaho Falls Kite Week in an effort to encourage more people to get out and use our community parks. I spoke with Dean Turnblom of Sunrise Kites (460 Cleveland St) and found out a little more about the grades of kites available, some […]
Stephen King’s Cell is a scary call
I just read the newest Stephen King novel, Cell, in only three days. It was excellent, captivating, and the story pulled me through quickly. I highly recommend reading it.
Stephen King seems to write two genre: horror stories and human stories. An example of his human stories is The Shawshank Redemption. Cell definitely falls into the […]
Map our gas prices
The news reported the other night that Idaho had the third cheapest gas in America, and this map proves it. Zoom in and you will see Bonneville County is even cheaper than southeast Idaho. Hopefully this encourages regional visitors to fill up their tanks in Idaho Falls.
Map our religious adherences
This interesting set of maps displays how many people belong to various churches around the country.
Of course Mormons are concentrated in our country, but it is interesting to see the other religions grouped together or spread out. Note especially the concentration in southeast Idaho.
Why password strength matters
I read an interesting article demonstrates the value of strong passwords. Many people see passwords as obstacles to what they need, rather than the security mechanisms that they really are. Treat your passwords like your front door locks, like your social security number, and like your debit card; they all deserve healthy respect.
The article demonstrates […]
Idaho Falls Consumer Technology Show
Someone should organize a consumer technology trade show in Idaho Falls. The purpose would be to raise technology awareness among southeast Idahoans, to teach some beginning and intermediate technology skills, and of course to sell technology products.
Seminars or workshops should be held for beginning and intermediate skills in office software, digital imaging, Internet topics, scanning, […]
Of Grandmas and Mexicans
The debate over immigration has been raging nationally and locally. I have Hispanic friends who carry one perspective, and white family and friends who carry opposite perspectives. I do not pretend to know what is right or the solutions, but I will try to explore some of them here and hopefully others will comment in […]
